Athens offers a variety of opportunities for the sport enthusiasts. First of all the city offers the possibility of all kinds of water sports such as swimming, fishing, diving, water skiing, windsurfing and sailing.


On Mount Parnes or Parnitha, the highest of Attica Mountains, there are a lot of possibilities for these interested in climbing or just mountain walking. In its huge pine wood forest, extending over 300 km2 one has the chance to see over 818 different kinds of herbs and plants, thousands of trails to follow and hundreds of small caves to explore.

Many tennis courts can be found at various places in Athens, such as the Athens Tennis Club at Vass. Olgas Avenue, the Glyfada Athletic Club at Glyfada, as well as at Aghios Kosmas, Voula and Vouliagmeni.


The "Glyfada Golf Course" is renowned as one of Europe's most pleasurable and challenging golf courses, for even the most accomplished golfer. It is a professional Golf Course, situated just 25 minutes from the centre of Athens and five minutes from the lively coastal resort of Glyfada. It offers a 18 holes, Par 72 course, was designed and built in 1962 by D. Harradine and remodelled in 1979 by the American golf architect Robert Trent Jones. In 1979 the Glyfada Golf Course hosted the 27th Golf World Cup and in 1991 the golfing events of the XI Mediterranean Games.
