Athens - The Past
![]() |
Athens is the capital of Greece. The city of Plato, Socrates and Pericles took it's name by it's protector, goddess Athena, daughter of Zeus, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge.
The Athenians were master builders and architects; they were also great lovers of art.
Their talents can be viewed through many different forms that have survived for centuries, such as public works, architectural designs, sculptures, pottery and fine jewellery. Many of these can be admired in museums all over the world.
